On the evening of the 17th march, TMC releases its manifesto to persuade its voters with many captivating schemes and benefits. Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, mentioned it as a “development-oriented” manifesto for the forthcoming West Bengal assembly election, guaranteeing an income scheme for all households, a student credit card, and the formation of a task force to look into the inclusion of many groups under the OBC category.
The Centre today announced that it has not made a decision on the National Registry of Citizens’ nationwide implementation (NRC). Nityanand Rai, Union Minister of State for Home, was referring to a query in the Rajya Sabha regarding the central government’s plans to introduce the NRC across the country.
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee launched her party’s election manifesto on Wednesday, pledging a monthly Universal Basic Income for all households, a credit card system for students pursuing higher education, and the establishment of a task force to look at the inclusion of many disadvantaged groups under the OBC group.
In response to the BJP’s charge that the TMC is engaging in authoritarianism politics, the manifesto did not have any special scheme or program for the minority community, which had been a big electoral base for the party before 2019 Lok Sabha election.
In addition, the manifesto promised to create a “model Nandigram” with 24-hour power, piped water, and well-connected roads. Banerjee, who made the announcement recently, is running for the Nandigram seat, where she will face off against her former ally Suvendu Adhikari.
Her manifesto will take steps to improve annual financial assistance to farmers from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000, claiming that her leadership had decreased poverty in the state by 40%.
The BJP, on the other hand, called the manifesto a “jumla” (big lie) intended to deceive the state’s voters ahead of the polls.
Taking inspiration from the Congress’s pledge of Universal Basic Income during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Banerjee promised that the woman guardian of any general category family will get Rs 500 per month, while the sum will be Rs 1,000 for SC/ST/OBC families.
Widows above the age of 18 will get a Rs 1,000 pension, according to the chief minister.
