After weeks of backlash over Ramdev’s statements on allopathic therapies during the pandemic’s catastrophic second wave, the yoga guru has now reversed his position, declaring he will “very soon” get vaccinated.
Yoga guru Ramdev, who previously stated that he does not require the Covid vaccine because he is protected by yoga and Ayurveda, reversed his position on Thursday, stating that he will receive the vaccination shortly and describing doctors as “God’s envoys on earth.”
Now, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration that all vaccines will be free starting June 21, Ramdev called it a “historic” action and urged everyone to be vaccinated.
“Get both doses of the vaccine and the double protection of yoga and Ayurveda. They will combine to give you such a robust shield of protection that not a single person will die from Covid,” he told reporters in Haridwar.
In response to the continuing spat with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ramdev stated that he cannot hold grudges against any organization.
He stated that he was opposed to the exploitation of individuals in the name of medicine. According to Ramdev, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras were established because many doctors prefer to prescribe pricey medicines over generic pharmaceuticals, which are less expensive.
In contrast, Ramdev had previously referred to allopathy as “a foolish science” and questioned vaccine efficacy, claiming that 1,000 doctors died despite being completely vaccinated. Ramdev also praised good allopathic doctors, calling them “God’s emissaries on Earth.”
Ramdev, on the other hand, sent an open letter to the IMA, requesting cures for diabetes, hypertension, and heart blockages, as well as treatments for humanizing “rude and angry people” and “sorting out disputes between practitioners of Ayurveda and allopathy.”
