After ‘purifying’ themselves with Gangajal, over 200 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in West Bengal’s Hooghly area returned to the Trinamool Congress.

Workers in the party stated that joining the BJP was a mistake. To “atone” for their error, they shaved their hair and sprinkled Gangajal on their heads before returning to the TMC.

The TMC flag was carried by BJP members in Hooghly, who joined hands with Arambagh MP Aparupa Poddar.

According to TMC MP Aparupa Poddar, on Tuesday, the party held a programme in Arambagh to distribute free meals to the underprivileged.

Aparupa Poddar stated that several Dalit individuals came up to her during the programme and told her that she had made a mistake by joining the BJP. They intended to return to TMC after making amends for their error.

Hundreds of TMC activists have returned to the party in numerous West Bengal districts since the TMC’s win in the recent assembly elections.

Over 50 BJP activists in West Bengal’s Birbhum were re-inducted into the Trinamool Congress Party earlier this month after staging a dharna outside the party’s office asking to be reinstated. The campaigners had expressed sorrow for switching sides.

The BJP, on the other hand, has blamed the flight of party workers on the violence that erupted in the state after the election results were announced.

Workers are being forced to rejoin the ruling party, according to the BJP, because they are afraid for their safety and that of their families.
