Following Telangana, the government of Andhra Pradesh declared on Friday (April 23) that a night curfew will be enforced in the state beginning April 24 due to an increase in coronavirus COVID-19 cases. According to the notice, the curfew will be in place from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning until the end of the month.
Speaking regarding ramping up COVID-19 testing in the state, the Health Minister said that CM Jagan has recommended that testing be conducted at maximum capacity in the state. He also said that there have been concerns of hospitals overcharging patients for CT scans and threatened to take action against those procedures.
From May 1, the Andhra Pradesh will also provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all beneficiaries aged 18 to 45. “With this announcement, over 2 crore people in the state between the ages of 18 and 45 will benefit from free vaccination,” said the Health Minister. According to him, the state government will have the COVID-19 vaccine by bearing a cost of around Rs 1600 crore.
Anil Kumar Singhal, the Principal Secretary (Medical, Health, and Family Welfare) of Andhra Pradesh, has stated that the state’s Covid situation is under control. “The situation in the state is under control, and there is no lack of either beds or oxygen in the hospitals,” Singhal said on Thursday. According to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s instructions, the 104 call centre has been improved and has already begun receiving a growing number of calls.
On April 22, Andhra Pradesh registered 10,759 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 9.97 lakh, with 66,944 active cases in the state. On the bright side, 3,992 more people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall number of recoveries to more than 9.22 lakh.
