The Andhra Pradesh government agreed on Monday to prolong the curfew until May 31, as the coronavirus graph in the state continued to rise sharply.
The COVID-19 curfew, which went into effect on May 5, was expected to end on Tuesday, but at a high-level discussion meeting on the pandemic, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy agreed to prolong it until the end of the month.
The state added 1,43,684 cases in the first week of May, and the total rose to 1,90,117 between May 8 and 16.
Andhra Pradesh posted over 20,000 cases a day in the last six days, with a high of 24,171 on May 16, showing that the curfew had no impact.
“To produce the desired effects, the curfew should be in effect for at least four weeks (breaking the coronavirus chain). So keep it up, “The authorities were instructed by the Chief Minister.
According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office, Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked health officials to take measures to reduce COVID-19 cases, especially in rural areas.
The Chief Minister also requested officials to look after children whose parents died as a result of COVID-19.
“Prepare a strategy for providing the necessary financial assistance to such children. Deposit a fixed sum in their name such that the interest can be used for their daily needs “Jagan said.
