BS Yediyurappa, the chief minister of Karnataka, has shared details from his Saturday meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah. Yediyurappa was in Delhi to meet with the minister of home affairs to talk about party politics and governance issues in his state. Following the much-anticipated meeting, the Karnataka chief minister told reporters that they discussed the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as well as the upcoming Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka state assembly elections.
“He (Shah) asked me to work hard to come back to power in Karnataka and that we must win more seats in the next Lok Sabha elections,” news agency ANI quoted Karnataka chief minister Yediyurappa as saying. “He said that we will win 100% in Uttar Pradesh and in Karnataka; we have a bright future.”
In an interview with reporters, Yediyurappa also revealed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had asked him to take on the task of strengthening the party in Karnataka. The news follows speculation about a change in leadership in the state, as well as the chief minister’s resignation.
When asked about these rumours, Yediyurappa strongly denied reports suggesting that he had resigned. “There is no truth in it… Not at all, not at all,” the Karnataka chief minister was quoted as saying. “There is no value of such news.”
“I will resign the day party high command asks me to quit,” he said. “I do not speak about the rumours and the speculation created by some of the ministers and legislators.”
Yediyurappa went on to say that he would be back in the Capital next month.
On Friday, Karnataka’s chief minister arrived in Delhi. Following that, he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended other meetings related to the ongoing Covid-19 situation and state development projects.
