From Monday, the central government will begin a massive campaign to provide free Covid-19 vaccine to all citizens over the age of 18, a move that is expected to help increase daily vaccination rates.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced earlier this month that the Centre will take over the existing Covid-19 vaccination campaign, which has been partially carried out by states since May 1.
The new policy comes just days after the Supreme Court slammed the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination campaign for people aged 18 to 44, calling it “arbitrary and irrational.”
By the end of this year, the government hopes to have vaccinated all adults in the country against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Everything you need to know about the free Covid-19 vaccine:
- At any government facility, all citizens over the age of 18 can get a free vaccination.
- The Centre will purchase 75% of total vaccine production from vaccine manufacturers and distribute it free of charge to state governments. The vaccine will not be funded by any state government.
- All vaccination clinics, both public and private, would offer on-site registration. It is not necessary to register for the Co-Win app.
- States may use the services of Common Service Centers and Call Centers to assist citizens in scheduling vaccination appointments.
- Each vaccine manufacturer would declare the price of Covid-19 vaccine doses for private hospitals, and any changes would be notified in advance.
