At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) NSAs meeting on Wednesday, India’s NSA Ajit Doval presented an “action plan” against Pakistan-based terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The SCO framework has been presented for dealing with terror groups. Doval also stated that technology utilized by terrorists, such as drones, for weapon smuggling and the misuse of dark Web, etc. must be monitored.
Many terror acts in India have been carried out by the LeT and JeM. Particularly in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. JeM, which was founded with the help of Pakistan’s spy agency. It was responsible for the Pulwama attack, which claimed 40 soldiers’ lives.
“Though India joined the SCO in 2017, it has had physical, spiritual, cultural, and philosophical ties with the countries that now make up the organization for centuries,” Doval added. He spoke with Russian NSA Nikolai Patrushev on the sidelines of the SCO’s national security chiefs conference.
Doval met with Russian NSA Nikolai Patrushev for about two hours, during which they discussed subjects of mutual interest. They talked about current events that are important on a bilateral, regional, and global level.
During the discussion, the two presidents also discussed the developing situation in Afghanistan and the Asia-Pacific region. NSA emphasized connecting projects like Chahbahar, INSTC, and Regional Air Corridors, which are contributing to “economic gains and building trust.” But it also cautioned “connectivity must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
China’s huge infrastructure project, the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), runs through Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. This has been a source of concern for New Delhi, which has raised the issue with Beijing on several occasions.
The Presidents of Russia, China, and the four Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan created the SCO in Shanghai in 2001.
