Juhi Chawla, an actor, and environmentalist filed a petition in the Delhi High Court on Monday against the deployment of 5G wireless networks in the nation, citing concerns about the effects of radiation on residents, animals, flora, and fauna.
The case was shifted to another bench for hearing on June 2 by Justice C Hari Shankar, who presided over the hearing.
No person, animal, bird, insect, or plant on Earth will be able to avoid exposure to levels of RF radiation that are 10x to 100x times larger than what exists today, according to Juhi Chawla, if the telecoms industry’s ambitions for 5G come to reality.
She believes that these 5G plans will have major, irrevocable repercussions on humanity as well as lasting harm to all of the Earth’s ecosystems.
In a statement, Juhi Chawla’s spokesperson shared that the suit has directed the concerned department to certify that 5G technology is safe for humankind and all kinds of animals and birds. It also demanded a study that the implementation would be safe not just in current times but also in the near future.
The petition, filed by lawyer Deepak Khosla, asked the authorities to certify to the general public that 5G technology is safe for humans, men, women, adults, children, infants, animals, and all other living organisms, flora, and fauna.
The fifth-generation (or 5G) of long-term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks is the most recent update. 5G primarily operates in three bands, namely the low, mid, and high-frequency spectrums, each of which has its own set of benefits and drawbacks. India, like the rest of the world, had intended to launch 5G services as soon as possible in 2018, in order to take advantage of the improved network speeds and strength that the technology promised.
