The income tax department search at the properties of Bollywood actor Sonu Sood continues for the third day as the government expands its investigation into the actor’s suspected tax fraud charges.
Multiple locations in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Jaipur are being searched, according to reports.
Searches were carried out at about six properties related to Sonu Sood in Mumbai and Lucknow on Wednesday, when the department took action against him. People connected to him are now on the I.T. department’s radar.
Sonu Sood has just been named an ambassador for the AAP’s student mentorship programme.
The AAP has slammed the action against the actor, claiming that he is being targeted by the government because he is a “messiah” for the poor.
Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP’s leader and Delhi’s chief minister, tweeted in support of Sonu Sood, saying the Bollywood actor has the prayers of millions of families he has helped in difficult times.
Sonu Sood received national and international acclaim for his pandemic-related humanitarian efforts, which began with organising transportation for migrant labourers.
Shiv Sena also criticised the move, saying that while the BJP had hailed Sonu Sood, it now considers him a tax evader after the Delhi and Punjab governments sought to work together with him.
