The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested actor and former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan today, a day after he was detained for questioning over restricted drugs discovered at his Mumbai home.
He was apprehended at the Mumbai airport yesterday after arriving from Rajasthan. During searches in the city’s Andheri and Lokhandwala districts, the agency discovered alprazolam tablets from his home, according to the report.
According to the NCB, Aijaz Khan is a member of the syndicate of drug manufacturer Shadab Farooque Shaikh alias Shadab Batata. Last Thursday, Shaikh was apprehended, and over 2 kilograms of the banned mephedrone compound were discovered on him.
Mr. Batata’s revelations took the agency to Mr. Khan, who was interviewed at the NCB’s Mumbai office. Mr. Khan said to reporters outside the building that he was not arrested and that he had gone to see the officers willingly. He insisted on his innocence this morning.
“Neither my home nor the airport had anything found,” Mr. Khan said to reporters today as he was being taken away by officials. “Nothing,” he said repeatedly when asked about the drugs uncovered at his house. When you ask them where they got it, they’ll tell you they got four sleeping pills. My wife had suffered a miscarriage and was depressed. Those tablets were being taken by her.”
The NCB has tightened the screws on the suspected Bollywood-narcotics syndicate in recent months, executing raids, interrogations, and arrests in this regard. The inquiries are related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput last year.
During this process, the NCB challenged a host of industry A-listers, including Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shraddha Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan.
In recent days, the department has also detained a number of foreign nationals for drug abuse. According to sources, it intercepted a Nigerian national on Monday and recovered 200 grams of Mephedrone from the Navi Mumbai district. According to sources, six Sri Lankan nationals were arrested on a boat in Indian waters with 300 kilograms of opium and a significant quantity of arms and ammunition on the same day in Chennai.
