Pilates is a complete coordination of mind, body and spirit. It is a distinctive way to succeed in attaining your fitness goals. The city of lakes, Bhopal, recently inaugurated its first ever Pilates Class by Sanjana Singh Pawar, who is a certified Pilates trainer.

From Hollywood celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Miley Cyrus, Madonna and many more to Bollywood celebrities like Deepika Padukone , Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif and numerous other actresses have taken a liking to Pilates and the result of how well Pilates works can be seen on their toned bodies. In today’s time not just the celebrities but everybody, especially the youth is becoming health conscious. Their dedication towards being fit motivates them to try different ways to attain fitness. Amidst all this, the city’s well-known fitness and fashion blogger, Sanjana Singh Pawar started her fitness classes of Mat Pilates. During her classes she is introducing people to different forms and ways of being fit.

Pilates was devised by Joseph Pilates who was basically unfit and unhealthy. So, the exercises he devised were to strengthen his body and core. The exercises are based on the movements that the physiotherapist would instruct. These exercises are meant to heal and are performed on the mat. It is known as the method of “Contrology” as it is the art of controlled movements, which should look and feel like a workout when properly manifested.

“ If practiced with consistency, Pilates increases flexibility, strengthens body, tones the muscles, improves the posture and advances coordination. It is an excellent way to tone up those muscles and sculpt your body in a beautiful shape at the same time working on muscles and mind strength. Though Pilates is demanding but it’s not the kind of workout that always works up a sweat. It’s all about concentration and breathing but you’ll definitely feel it in your muscles during each exercise,” says Pilates expert and a certified Pilates trainer Sanjana Singh Pawar. She further added, “It’s important to maintain a healthy diet when you practice Pilates because it’s impossible to keep yourself fit without following a healthy diet.”

The main difference between Pilates and other forms of exercise is balance. Balance in strength and flexibility. A weight lifter focuses on strength and a yogi focuses on flexibility. Pilates is not “better” than any other form of exercise rather it compliments all forms of exercise. It focuses on the minor muscle groups often forgotten in other types of movement.

A lot of youth wonders how the celebrities manage to be so fit, well it’s because of Pilates. The youth of Bhopal too was curious to know more about this unique way to attain fitness due to which Sanjana started her classes by the name Pilates by Somy, which is the first and only Pilates class available in Bhopal and it’s been attracting a lot of youth. The fact is Pilates is for everyone, whether you are 12 or 82 years old, the Pilates method can improve the way you move. As of now, Bhopal has been giving an over whelming response to Pilates.
