Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that our country became independent on August 15, 1947 and Bhopal became independent on June 1, 1949. Today we are celebrating Bhopal’s Independence Day as Pride Day. Many people had participated in the merger for the independence of Bhopal. This is the day to remember them. Bhopal is not just a city of Nawabs but a city built by Raja Bhoj. A statue of Raja Bhoj has been installed in the lake of Bhopal, which is the identity of Bhopal.
Chouhan was addressing the Bhopal Gaurav Divas function at Motilal Nehru Stadium. Families of freedom fighters who participated in the Bhopal merger movement were felicitated in the programme.
Chouhan said that Rani Kamlapati had taken samadhi in lower lake for her own and women’s respect. Habibganj railway station has been renamed as Rani Kamalapati to make children aware of history. Similarly, the name of Islamnagar has been changed to Jagdishpur. Our Bhopal is the cleanest capital in India. Bhopal has to be made number one in cleanliness. Your co-operation is necessary in this. The Chief Minister said that the criminal act of intoxication will not be allowed to continue in Bhopal. The history of Bhopal is very glorious. Rajabhoj was the source of good governance. An attempt has been made to crush our ancient history, tradition and life values. The development of Bhopal has progressed. It has to be taken further. Bhopal has to be brought on no-1 in cleanliness as well.
Chouhan said that from the coming year, June 1 will be a public holiday on Bhopal Gaurav Divas. Convention center will be built in Bhopal. Arrangements will be made to run a ropeway over the lake. International cricket stadium will be built in Bhopal. He said that everyone should take a resolution to make Bhopal number one among the cities of the world.
Chouhan inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Laser-show based on the historical and archaeological heritage and development of Bhopal city was displayed in the programme. Comedians Krishna Abhishek, Suresh, lyricist Manoj Muntishar Shukla and singer Shreya Ghoshal enthralled the audience with their scintillating performances at the event.
