The state owned Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company has issued power saving tips for the consumers on usage of the air conditioner, cooler, fans, etc. particularly during summer season and minimize power bill.

The power consumption generally goes up during summer due to use of various equipments like AC, coolers, the power saving tips will help the consumers to minimize power bills, MP Power Management Company public relations officer Pankaj Swamy said.

Keep these things in mind…

Do this if you are running AC
Set the AC temperature between 24 to 26 degrees.
When the temperature is below this, the AC compressor has to work more.
AC runs for long duration, so electricity is also consume more and bill goes up. Run the fan in the room along with the AC.
Wash and clean the AC air filter thoroughly every 10-15 days.
Due to accumulation of dust in the filter, you do not get complete cooling and you have to run AC for a long duration.
Keep the windows and doors of AC rooms tightly closed while the AC is on.
If there are gap in the doors and windows, then seal them using thermocol etc.

For usage of cooler
In order to get complete cooling from the cooler, it is necessary that as much air as the cooler is throwing, there should be complete arrangement for the air to come out of the room.
If the cooler pads are damaged, get them replaced. Get the oiling and greasing of the cooler fan and pump done. Make sure to check the condenser of the cooler fan.
Also check the regulator of the cooler. The electronic regulator consumes less electricity.

For usage of fans.
Get all the fans of the house serviced. Get the bad condenser, ball bearing etc. replaced immediately.
Use an electronic regulator in the fan.
Keep this in mind for refrigerators
Even if there is no defect in the refrigerator, then before the summer season starts properly, get the refrigerator checked.
Do not open the refrigerator door frequently.
Do not keep the refrigerator door open for a long time.
Opening the door frequently or leaving it open for extended periods of time makes the compressor work harder to maintain the fridge’s temperature.
Excessive running of the compressor increases your electricity bill.
Do not keep very hot food or milk in the refrigerator. By doing this also the compressor has to run longer and your electricity bill increases.

Some important tips for everyone
Use the same electrical wire and fittings in your home, which have the ISI mark.
Old/damaged wiring also consumes more electricity and can be a fire hazard in the house.
