The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) has arrested Piyush Singh son of P C Singh, bishop of the Church of North India’s Jabalpur Diocese for involved with main accused (Singh) in a cheating case.
The EOW registered a case of cheating against Bishop Singh who is presently in the jail.
The case was registered against Bishop Singh on a complaint alleged that he withdrawn money from the educational society that runs various institutions and collects tuition fees from the students.
In investigation of the complaint it was found Singh allegedly transferred to religious institutions, misused and spent for personal needs. Rs 2.70 crore collected as students’ fees by the society between 2004-05 and 2011-12.
In the searches, the EOW recovered around Rs 1.60 crore in Indian and foreign currencies from Singh’s residence in Jabalpur.
Arrest of Piyush is third in series of arrest in the case as on Wednesday Suresh Jacob close to Bishop Singh was arrested.
