On Tuesday, Maharashtra passed the 6.4 million mark for Covid-19 cases with 4,408 new infections. The total number of people registered in the state was 6,401,213. In the last 24 hours, 5,424 recoveries were reported, bringing the total number of active cases down to 61,306.
During the same time period, 116 people died in the state. Sangli had the highest death toll, with 36 people killed. The district had 29 of them, while the city had the rest. Satara came next, with 30 people killed.
The Maharashtra government has granted relaxations in restrictions across the state beginning August 15, despite the slow decline in daily cases. The impact of the relaxations will be known in the next 15 days, according to officials.
Delta plus variant cases, on the other hand, are on the rise in the state.
The state had 76 Delta plus cases as of Monday, causing concern among state officials.
The state with the most Covid-19 cases is Maharashtra. It now has the maximum Delta plus variant cases as well.
On Monday, it also passed a significant milestone by administering 50 million doses. According to data on the Co-Win portal, it vaccinated 677,974 people on Tuesday and has administered a total of 50,710,698 doses to date.
