From Monday, only those who have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus or have a negative RT-PCR test report will be permitted to enter Punjab, according to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Visitors from the neighbouring states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu will be closely scrutinised.

Only fully vaccinated teaching and non-teaching staff, or those who have just recovered from COVID-19, are allowed to teach in Punjabi schools and colleges, despite the fact that students can still take classes online.

Mr Singh also wants teachers and non-teaching employees to be given preferential treatment when it comes to immunisation. Meanwhile, the state’s health minister proposed narrowing the interval between the two doses in order to prioritise the second dose for teachers and other school personnel.

On Friday, Punjab reported 88 Covid cases but no deaths. The total number of cases filed in the state is around six lakh.

Following the reopening of schools in Punjab, Covid testing has increased. In addition, the government has decided to undertake daily RT-PCR examinations on at least 10,000 samples from schools.

In addition to Punjab, schools in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have reported many positive instances among pupils in the last week as offline lessons resumed.
