Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, has said that an expansion of the state cabinet is likely on Wednesday evening if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leadership gives its approval in the morning. According to reports citing government officials familiar with the situation, the swearing-in of the new ministers as part of the cabinet expansion could happen as early as 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Cabinet expansion will take place tomorrow,” Bommai was quoted as saying by news agency ANI while the chief minister was speaking to reporters in Delhi. “If I get the clearance from the Central party leadership tomorrow morning, the oath-taking ceremony will be held in the evening.”
Basavaraj Bommai, who became Karnataka’s 23rd chief minister on July 28, arrived in Delhi on August 2 to meet with BJP national president JP Nadda to discuss plans for expanding the state cabinet.

Bommai stated that there is growing discontent among state party leaders over the continuing deputy chief ministers appointed by Bommai’s predecessor, former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa, during his tenure.
Bommai simply stated that there is a “difference of opinion” about whether the deputy chief minister position should be kept. He went on to say that the BJP’s national leadership has decided to make decisions on the Karnataka cabinet expansion only after consulting with Yediyurappa.
There’s also BY Vijayendra, Yediyurappa’s son, who is said to have been appointed to a position in the new cabinet. “The party will make a final decision on BY Vijayendra,” Bommai told reporters.
Bommai claimed that he had given Nadda a thorough briefing on the situation in Karnataka. He added that a decision on the Karnataka cabinet expansion will be made based on such discussions.
Basavaraj Bommai’s visit to the national capital on Monday was his second. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 30. During his earlier two-day visit to the national capital, he met with several Union ministers, including Amit Shah, the home minister, and Rajnath Singh, the defence minister.
