Security authorities in New Delhi have been placed on high alert due to the risk of a drone assault ahead of the August 15 Independence Day celebrations.
According to intelligence reports, Pakistan-based terror groups have plotted a terror assault on the nation’s capital and are going to use drones to carry it out.
The security services have warned the police that terror organizations may carry out attacks in the national capital on August 5, the day the government repealed the state of Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) special status by amending Article 370 of the Constitution.
The Delhi Police has increased its preparations and set up a separate control room to deal with the latest drone danger. The Delhi Police, as well as other security services, are receiving specific training to combat the threat of drones.
In addition, four anti-drone systems are being installed this year at the Red Fort, as opposed to the two anti-drone systems that were deployed last year.
Meanwhile, from July 21 to August 15, the Archaeological Survey of India has prohibited entrance into the Red Fort.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 6 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959, the Director-General, Archaeological Survey of India hereby direct that no entry shall be made inside the Red Fort from the morning of July 21, 2021, to the morning of August 15, 2021, until the Independence Day Celebrations are over,” the ASI said in a statement.
Earlier this month, Delhi Police Commissioner Balaji Srivastava issued a directive to all of Delhi’s Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP), Joint Commissioners of Police (JCP), and other Intelligence Unit officials to remain on high alert and closely monitor the drone danger.
The Delhi Police Commissioner has instructed station house officers (SHOs) in each district to take note of any calls to the police control room or information about drones in the city and examine the danger appropriately.
The order came just days after two drones attacked an Indian Air Force base in Jammu. States had been apprehensive of this new threat as a result of the attack.
