Security personnel recovered 30 kgs improvised explosive device (IED) in J&K’s Srinagar area on Tuesday, avoiding a huge tragedy, authorities said.
According to police sources, “Security forces avoided a major terror attack late yesterday evening when a 30 kgs IED was discovered near Tangpura Bandh in the outskirts of Srinagar.
“Terrorists and their few supporters’ plans to undermine the security situation in the Valley was defeated by the timely recovery.
Sources said “Based on the credible input of the Army, the search operation was launched by 24 RR and local police which led to the recovery of 30 kg of IED 700 meters away from the highway. “The IED was safely destroyed in situ by the Army Bomb Squad today morning. Search operation in Tangpura is in progress.”
Meanwhile, DGP Dilbag Singh of Jammu and Kashmir directed officials to be extremely cautious on Monday. He considered terror groups are constantly attempting to use drones for terrorist activities.
To foil their attempts, the DGP warned all suspect elements should be kept under surveillance.
Singh told the cops to pay special attention to measures to combat drug trafficking. This is the major technique to fund terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
On Monday, he supervised over a high-level joint security conference at Jammu police headquarters. The conference was to examine the security situation, according to officials. For the safety and security of the people, he asked the officers to enhance and reinforce the security grids in their respective locations.
To meet the security difficulties, Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining good communication between the J-K Police and other authorities.
The DGP instructed the cops to review their districts’ security preparations.
Singh urged officials to maintain a high level of readiness, particularly in border areas and the hinterland, to prevent any infiltration attempts. “Terror outfits are continuously attempting to use drones for terrorist activities,” he said.
According to sources, while reviewing the security situation on the highway grid, the DGP urged officers to intensify highway checks and plug whatever gaps with strict security measures.
In light of the upcoming Eid festival, the DGP further asked the police to follow the Covid SoPs to the letter.
