Delta plus, a lethal and more infectious variant of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), has arrived in Uttar Pradesh. First, two cases of the delta plus Covid-19 variant were discovered in Gorakhpur and Deoria, according to the state. The publication confirmed that one of the patients had died, and that the news had caused quite a stir in the area..

SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus ‘variants of concern’ have been detected in 174 districts across 35 states and union territories, according to the Union health ministry. Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, and West Bengal have the highest number of these cases.

The Delta plus Covid-19 variant was discovered in eastern UP after samples of Covid-19 patients were sent to the Council of Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR) at the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi for genome sequencing. The results of the genome sequencing test were received on Tuesday, and it was discovered that over 80% of the samples tested positive for the Delta variant (B.1.617.2), while only 6% tested positive for the alpha variant, which was first discovered in the UK.

Only two samples were found to be positive for the delta plus variant, causing locals to panic. These belonged to a 66-year-old Deoria patient and a 23-year-old MBBS student at a Gorakhpur medical college. The elderly victim, who had tested positive on May 17, passed away while undergoing treatment.

The news has sparked widespread excitement in the region because the delta plus Covid-19 variant is thought to be responsible for a potential third wave of the pandemic in India. The delta variant was the driving force behind the final wave, which was nearly twice as lethal as the first. The first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic infected around 20,000 people in India, while the second wave infected around 36,000 people, according to reports. Even as the death toll and infection rate continued to rise exponentially, there was a scramble for government beds, medical oxygen, ventilators, and other pieces of equipment across the country.
