The Parliament’s Monsoon session will begin on July 19 and end on August 13, according to an official communique released on Friday. The Lok Sabha secretariat announced that the 17th Lok Sabha’s sixth session will begin on Monday, July 19, and end on Friday, August 13, depending on government business.

According to the Rajya Sabha secretariat, the 254th session of the Rajya Sabha will begin on July 19 and will last until August 13.

“The President has summoned the Rajya Sabha to meet on Monday, 19 July 2021, at New Delhi. Subject to exigencies of business, the Session is scheduled to conclude on Friday, 13 August 2021,” a Rajya Sabha official order said.

There will be 19 simultaneous sittings in both Houses. The Parliament sessions will take place in the midst of the second wave of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), but with the necessary precautions in place. Similarly to the previous session, arrangements are being made this time to provide social distancing for members of Parliament (MPs).

According to a PTI report, 444 members of the Lok Sabha and 218 members of the Rajya Sabha have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Because of Covid-19, some MPs have not yet been able to take their second jab. “Another 30 MPs have not communicated with us. We are attempting to contact them in order to obtain information about their vaccination status.

Since March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted Parliamentary sessions, forcing the early closure of last year’s budget and monsoon sessions, as well as this year’s budget session. Due to the public health crisis, the 2020 winter session has been cancelled entirely. The high vaccination rate among lawmakers and Parliament staff increases the likelihood of a longer and more productive Parliament session. Parliament is currently debating over 40 bills and five ordinances.
