On Saturday, the Telangana cabinet will meet to discuss a number of important issues, including the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown and the impact of the monsoon on agriculture. The current lockdown will end on Saturday, and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to make a decision on the matter as the number of Covid-19 cases in the southern state decreases.
“An emergency State Cabinet meeting will be held here at Pragati Bhavan on Saturday at 2 pm under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao,” a Telangana government’s release said on Friday. It said that in the meeting, the cabinet is expected to discuss matters such as “lockdown in the state, rainfall, cultivation in the Monsoon season, agriculture-related seasonal issues, lifting of Godavari waters, Hydel power generation and other issues would be discussed.”
On Saturday, the state’s ongoing lockdown will come to an end. During the lockdown, the cabinet has granted relaxation from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as an extra hour, until 6 p.m., for people to get home from their offices. On June 8, the cabinet decided to extend the lockdown for another ten days.
Telangana reported 1417 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 610,834, and the death toll to 3546, with 12 more fatalities. According to a state government bulletin issued on Friday evening, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had the most cases with 149, followed by Rangareddy with 104 and Khammam with 93.
With 1897 people recovering from Covid-19, the total number of recoveries surpassed the number of new cases, bringing the total to 588,259. According to the bulletin, there were 19,029 active cases of Covid-19. It said on Friday that 124,430 samples were tested, bringing the total number of samples tested to 1,73,14,780. The total number of samples tested per million people was 465,200.
According to the bulletin, the case fatality rate in Telangana was 0.58 percent, compared to 1.3 percent nationally. The recovery rate in Telangana was 96.30 percent, while the national rate was 95.99 percent, according to the report.
