Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar is holding a series of meetings in Delhi amid disagreements with Mamata Banerjee’s government, and his controversial role and remarks have pitted the Left against the Trinamool Congress.
Mr. Dhankhar has been embroiled in a long-running spat with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over accusations and counter-claims about post-poll violence in Bengal, and a key Left leader has backed the Trinamool’s condemnation of him.
Dhankhar met Union ministers for culture and tourism Prahlad Singh Patel and coal, mines, and parliamentary affairs, Prahlad Joshi, on the first day of his two-day visit, in addition to the NHRC chief. Both ministers campaigned for their respective parties in the Bengal assembly elections.
“He is not a BJP member, but his role is similar to that of a BJP member.
This cannot be a governor’s role. He’s describing himself as a BJP supporter. This isn’t correct.
This cannot be a governor’s function, especially in West Bengal “Chairman of the Left Front, Biman Bose, stated. Mr. Dhankhar has been accused of overstepping his brief by the Trinamool Congress, which has stated categorically that he should not return to the state.
Mr. Dhankhar gave no justification for his four-day travel to the capital; he left a day after a delegation of BJP MLAs petitioned him about the state’s deteriorating peace and order situation.”We’ve never seen a governor so unconcerned about the Constitution and its rules.
He has been breaking every rule of the constitution. The governor is required by our Constitution to follow the directions of the council of ministers, which is led by the chief minister. But he defies all norms and behaves according to his whims and fancies “Sougata Ray, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress, acknowledged as much.
“Uncleji is travelling to Delhi on June 15th,” another Trinamool MP, Mahua Moitra, tweeted. “Do us a favor WB Governor Sahib – don’t come back.”

He penned a letter to the Chief Minister before leaving on Tuesday evening, accusing her of silence over the state’s violence and “not taking actions to rehabilitate the suffering people.” The state government accused him of breaking established rules after he released the letter on Twitter.
The Governor said he met with Union ministers Prahlad Joshi and Prahlad Singh Patel on Thursday. He also urged the National Human Rights Commission to take action. He has mentioned meeting with the Home Minister, Amit Shah.
