The WHO has designated the B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.2 COVID-19 variants, which were initially detected in India, as ‘Kappa’ and ‘Delta,’ respectively, in the same way that it has called other coronavirus variations using Greek alphabets to ease public debates and eliminate stigma from the names.
