A video of a 10-year-old boy selling socks on the streets of Ludhiana to help his family went viral on Friday, prompting Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to make a video call to the boy and pledge financial assistance for his family.
Vansh Singh, 10, announced in the video that he dropped out of school and began working to help his family. He also declined to accept an additional Rs 50 from the customer who shot his film. The CM announced that the district administration would re-admit the son, Vansh Singh (10) to his school.
In addition, the CM declared full financial support for his school, as well as Rs 2 lakh in immediate assistance for the family.
The CM advised the Ludhiana DC to ensure that Vansh, a dropout, returns to school, with the state government covering all of his educational expenses.
The chief minister, who spoke with Vansh and his family via video call after seeing the boy’s video of him rejecting a car occupant’s bid of Rs 50 more than the cost of socks, said he was pleased by the boy’s self-esteem and integrity. The video of the boy had received millions of views on social media, with people praising his integrity and dignity.
Vansh’s dad, Paramjit, also sells socks, and his mother, Rani, is a stay-at-home mom. Vansh has three sisters and an older brother, and the family lives in a rented house in the Haibowal neighborhood.
