The Railway Ministry announced on Saturday that Delhi would obtain 120 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen in six tankers from Durgapur, West Bengal, within the next 24 hours.
This will be the first Oxygen Express, carrying oxygen in Singapore-provided containers that arrived at the container company terminal near Durgapur.
Officials said the containers were directly placed on flat waggons of the Oxygen Express, which left at around 12:45 p.m. for Delhi and would take around 18 hours to reach the national capital.
Telangana will receive 124.26 metric tonnes of life-saving gas via Oxygen Express in the same time frame as Delhi. On Saturday, the Railway Board’s Chairman and CEO announced that 25 Oxygen Express had finished their journey, transporting 56 full tankers.
More than 813 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen have been supplied by railways to Maharashtra (174 MT), Uttar Pradesh (355 MT), Madhya Pradesh (134.77 MT), Delhi (70 MT), and Haryana.
The first and second Oxygen Express trucks arrived in Haryana on Saturday, delivering 79 metric tonnes of the life-saving gas in five tankers. Furthermore, the third Oxygen Express, which is carrying 30.6 metric tonnes of medical oxygen in two tankers, has left Angul and is en route to Haryana.
Madhya Pradesh got its second Oxygen Express yesterday, delivering 70.77 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen from Bokaro to Jabalpur and Sagar.
The third Oxygen Express to Jabalpur is on its way from Rourkela, carrying 22.19 MT of oxygen, and is scheduled to arrive in Jabalpur by tonight.
The 8th Oxygen Express will arrive in Uttar Pradesh en route from Bokaro, carrying 44.88 MT of oxygen in three tankers. So far, 355 metric tonnes of medical supplies have been delivered to Uttar Pradesh.
