Gautam Gambhir, a BJP MP in Delhi, today defended his bid of free antiviral drug “Fabiflu” in his constituency, which has been attacked by many, including AAP and Congress lawmakers.
“Can it be considered hoarding if a few hundred strips of tablets purchased from a seller are given away for free? Is the fact that I got a few Fabiflu strips triggering the shortage? You can call me a fool, but I’ll go to whatever length to save people’s lives “ANI quoted the cricketer-turned-politician as saying.
His post from yesterday sparked a social media backlash.
“People of East Delhi can get ‘Fabiflu’ from MP office (2, Jagriti Enclave) for FREE between 10-5. Kindly get Aadhar & prescription,” he tweeted
Opposition parties reacted angrily to the declaration, which came amid news of a severe shortage of Covid drugs. They accused Gautam Gambhir of “hoarding” the primary medication and asked why he didn’t hand over the doses to hospitals in need.
“This is why Remdisivir, Fabiflu, and other essential drugs have been taken off the market. These drugs are being hoarded by BJP politicians. This has also been seen in Gujarat. Such speakers must be scheduled “Rajesh Sharma, an AAP official, took to Twitter.
“Isn’t this a crime? An MP who keeps drugs in his possession and distributes them according to his wishes. What makes him think he shouldn’t take them to the hospital? “Somnath Bharti, another party chief, tweeted about it.
Delhi is one of the cities hardest hit by Covid’s deadly second surge. On Wednesday, there were 24,638 coronavirus cases and 249 deaths in the capital. The positivity rate is over 31%, which means that almost every third study is positive for Covid.
The situation has escalated, with hospitals in the region reporting a lack of oxygen, beds, and drugs. With their SOS, hospitals like Max went to the Delhi High Court.
In the capital, “Fabiflu,” which is used by some physicians to treat mild to severe Covid infections, is in short supply.
