According to ANI, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday. An official from the hospital told the news agency that the 88-year-old Congress leader has been taken to the trauma center of the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
On Saturday, Singh met with top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to discuss the country’s coronavirus situation.
On Sunday, senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the country’s dire COVID-19 situation, recommending ways to deal with the crisis.
Singh told Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday that increasing India’s vaccination program was critical in combating the coronavirus epidemic, and he gave some suggestions. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister, ignored the suggestions, saying that Singh’s own body, the Congress, should take his advice first.

“Deeply concerned that Dr. Manmohan Singh has been hospitalized with fever. I pray that he will overcome this health setback with his indomitable courage. The prayers of the whole nation are with Dr. Singh and wish him a speedy recovery,” he said.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote: “Just got the news former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Ji has tested positive for COVID. Sir, our thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery.”
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said: “Wishing a speedy recovery to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who tested positive for COVID.”
On Monday, India’s daily coronavirus cases reached a new high of 2,73,810. Since the pandemic began in January 2020, the world has had 1,50,61,919 total incidents, second only to the United States. The number of deaths increased by 1,619 to 178,769.
