New Delhi: 17 people were killed and two were injured when a fierce fire broke out in a firecracker storage unit on Saturday (January 20th) in the Bawana industrial area of External, Delhi. The Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into the incident. An official of Delhi Fire Service said that a storage unit was set on the ground floor of a two-storey building, which spread throughout the building. Another fire officer said that ten women and seven men were killed. A man and a woman were injured. Both have been admitted to a hospital.
Police confirmed the death of 17 people in this incident and registered an FIR in this regard. They said that the investigation is being done to ascertain the cause of the fire. The news about the fire in the Delhi Fire Service was received at around 6:20 in the evening and 10 vehicles of fire brigade reached the spot. The fire has been overcome.
GC Mishra, Director of Delhi Fire Service said that the building has basement, ground floor and two floors. They said, ‘One body was recovered from the basement, three from the ground floor and 13 bodies were recovered from the first floor. To save himself, one person jumped from the second floor and got fractured. ‘
Mishra said that the fire was controlled by 9:20 pm but the search and rescue operation was on. He said, ‘We are not leaving anything.’ We do not have any definite information about how many people were present in the building at the time of the fire. “The police said that people were burnt to death due to fire or they died due to suffocation.

According to the official, there is a rubber factory on the second floor of the cracker factory. A senior official of North Delhi Municipal Corporation said that the Mayor of North Delhi, Preeti Agar went on an opportunity to take stock of the situation. The official said that this factory comes under the area of Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).
