The TRP scam case was heard by a double bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday. A bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice Manish Patale directed the Mumbai Police that if the police wanted to arrest Republic TV Chief Editor Arnab Goswami, he would have to give notice to the court 72 hours in advance.
The Maharashtra government asked the court to complete the investigation in 12 weeks against employees of Republic TV and ARG Outlier Media and other television channels, which was accepted.
The bench said that if the police find something in the investigation and you want to take action by force, then you have to give notice to Arnab Goswami 72 hours in advance.
Arnab’s allegation, Mumbai police stretching investigation
The court is hearing a number of petitions by Arnab Goswami and ARG Media. Both have sought relief from the court in some cases. Arnab has claimed in the petition that the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police has no evidence against him. The police are dragging the investigation by writing his name as a suspect in the charge sheet.
The court said earlier – no concrete evidence
Earlier on Monday, the hearing in the TRP scam case was also held. The High Court had then told the police that it could not investigate in any case for months without taking any name. The court had said that if we look at the facts, the police have nothing concrete against Goswami in the case. Actually, a case was registered in Mumbai’s Kandivali police station on the Republic TV channel for buying fake TRP. However, Arnab Goswami was not charged in this.
Mumbai Police claimed fraud in TRP
The Mumbai Police held a press conference on October 8, claiming to have busted the Falls TRP racket. Then Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had told that 3 channels including Republic TV used to buy TRP by paying. Five people were arrested in this case. The police also said that the detained people have confessed that these channels used to pay money and change TRPs. On the other hand, Republic Media Network had termed these allegations as false.
