In connection with the Mukesh Ambani bomb scare situation, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has recovered a recording. In the film, Sachin Vaze, a suspended Mumbai police officer, and Mansukh Hiren, a car dealer, are seen sitting in a Mercedes near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT) railway station.
According to reports, Apprehended Mumbai cop Sachin Vaze met Mansukh Hiran on February 17, the day the Thane businessman’s Mahindra Scorpio SUV was stolen. A week later, the car was discovered on the city’s Carmichael Road, near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s home, laden with explosives and a threat letter addressed to the Reliance Industries chief’s family. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which are investigating three cases linked to the attack, have discovered CCTV footage of the two together on that day in the city’s Fort district, they said.
Mr. Hiran was discovered dead in Thane creek on March 5, and his wife accused Mr. Vaze of being involved in his murder. The now-suspended cop had borrowed the same SUV from Mr. Hiran for about four months, before he returned it on February 5.
On February 17, Mr. Vaze and Mr. Hiran met inside a black Mercedes-Benz, one of the vehicles reportedly traced to the accused policeman in connection with the investigation, according to reports. According to them, the meeting, which took place near the General Post Office, lasted about ten minutes.
Mr. Hiran had announced that on February 17, he had parked his Scorpio on the highway in the central Mumbai neighborhood of Vikhroli and taken a taxi to Crawford Market in south Mumbai. The next day, he discovered his SUV had been robbed.
Notably, Mr. Vaze reported the car parts trader’s comment while running the Crime Intelligence Team. Nonetheless, he failed to document his February 17 meeting with Mr. Hiran.
Although the ATS is looking into the stealing of the car and the death of Mr Hiran, the NIA is looking into the danger to Mr Ambani.
Today, Mr Vaze’s bail appeal will be heard in a Thane court. Earlier it had noted that a custodial investigation of the suspended cop was required when refusing its temporary relief plea and today the matter had been released. The ATS would almost certainly present the facts in court and request a production order against him.
Mr. Vaze is being held by the NIA. He was arrested on March 13, the day after his application for temporary relief was dismissed by the Thane judge.
