Bhopal: A survey involving Madhya Pradesh education system has given frightening results. The results of this survey of ASER in 952 houses of 60 villages of Bhopal show that 37 per cent of adolescents can not even tell the name of their state. Not only this, the survey among teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 has shown that 38.7 per cent of the adolescent girls do not go to school, whereas 25.5 per cent of the adolescents have not operated mobile till date. 19 percent of the teens covered in the survey also failed to recognize the map of India. Let us tell you that this survey was done between the juveniles of the rural areas of Bhopal.
More than Digital India, we need Literate India
Senior Congress leader and advocate Kapil Sibal, who took charge of the Human Resources Ministry in the UPA government, responded to the report of the ASER and called it a ‘wake-up call’. Kapil Sibal aiming at the BJP government said, “Our children are our future, invest in our children, more than digital India, we need Literate India (literate India).”

Political rhetoric
The state’s main opposition party Congress has targeted the issue by linking the issue with state law system to the Shivraj government. Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Manak Agarwal said, “The girls are not going to school because of the fear of the miscreants.” They said this because of the lack of facilities in schools and the growing incidents of molestation. On the other hand, BJP MP from Bhopal, Alok Sanjar spoke to Zee News about this, saying, “Children and parents can lack the desire to read.” He then said, “In this case a comprehensive awareness campaign is needed.”
Punjab is in the same condition
Students of state government primary school do not have either English or Punjabi language. According to one report, 85 per cent of children from the first to the fifth do not even have to write the English language, but these government school children do not even have the knowledge of Punjabi letters. Regarding this, we checked reality in different schools of government primary schools, it was found that children do not know the words used in normal conversation.
Similar news was also received by the state’s education minister Aruna Chowdhary’s primary school in Block Batala, Gurdaspur’s home district. There the children of the school did not have the knowledge of Punjabi, not to speak of the English language. Teachers had written basic words like school and teacher from these school children, but these children could not read the English language. Some school children had no knowledge of Punjabi words. The team asked the children the spelling of marijuana or even buffalo, they could not even tell, though these schools and children belong to the villages.
According to a report, in the state in August and September, the base line test of 12977 government schools in the state was taken. In which 70.15 percent of the students failed in English, Math and Punjabi. While 85 percent of children did not have knowledge of English language While 82 percent of the children do not recognize the alphabetic words of Punjabi.
