Petrol and diesel prices in the country are skyrocketing. Today, petrol and diesel rose sharply for the 12th consecutive day. The public is upset with the constantly rising oil prices and the opposition is attacking the government. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given a statement on this issue. She said that this is a serious and important issue. Central and state governments should talk to provide retail fuel at the appropriate level to consumers.
Petrol climbed 39 paise to Rs 90.58 per liter in Delhi on Saturday. Diesel also jumped 37 paise to Rs 80.97 per liter. Currently, the prices of both fuels are running at all time high in almost every city. The price of petrol has gone above Rs 100 in many cities of the country. Today Congress is protesting against rising oil prices in many states
Road transport services stop warning:
Meanwhile, Chairman of All India Motor Transport Congress, Bal Malkit Singh, has demanded immediate reduction in diesel prices by cutting central taxes. He said, “To cut the value added tax (VAT), the central government should immediately issue advisory to the states and the price of diesel should be equal across the country.” Singh said that he has given the government 14 days to fulfill his demand. If the government does not accept our demands, then we will have no option but to stop road transport services across the country.
How much tax is charged on petrol:
Central and state taxes account for 61 per cent of the retail price of petrol, while it is 56 per cent in the price of diesel. For example, in Delhi, the Central Exide duty is Rs 32.9 per liter of petrol and the State Value Added Tax is Rs 20.61. The total share of petrol base price, freight and dealer commission is Rs 35.78.
