Amethi, Uttar Pradesh: A video went viral on social media after the journo released an interview with the deceased’s family member who was denied medical treatment over politics.
In the viral video, a man who is close relative of the deceased can be seen alleging that Doctor Siddhartha, who works in the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Amethi, denied from providing any treatment to the patient who held Ayushman Bharat card.
The man also explained how easily the doctor turned away from his responsibilities. He told Dr. Siddhartha’s statements: “Yeh Rahul, Sanjay ka hospital hai; Modi ka nahi (This is Rahul, Sanjay’s hospital, not Modi’s).
Reacting to this allegation, Director of the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Amethi SM Choudhary said, “It is a baseless allegation, we’ve treated 200 patients under the scheme so far.”
He also said that the concerned patient was not carrying the Ayushman Bharat card and therefore could not be admitted under the scheme.
The deceased’s family member explains medical negligence by doctors over politics:
As Smriti Irani, Textile Minister and BJP candidate for Amethi shared the video on her Twitter, she wrote:
“Today I have no words. I never thought people can be this inhuman. A poor was dragged to death only because he had Modi’s Ayushman Bharat card but the hospital was of Rahul Gandhi.”
Addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior, the Prime Minister said:
“There is a hospital in Amethi whose trustee is a person from ‘naamdar family’, a few days ago a poor man went there for treatment with his Ayushman card, hospital denied him treatment because he was carrying the Ayushman Bharat card given by Modi.”
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is a centrally sponsored scheme that was launched under the Ayushman Bharat Mission in 2018. It aims to address healthcare holistically by making interventions in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems covering both preventive and promotive health.
