France, a permanent member of United Nations Security Council (UNSC), called on Pakistan to “put an end” to terror groups on its soil.
France minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs in a statement condemned Pulwama terror attack.
It said, “France utterly condemns the appalling attack carried out on February 14 against the Indian security forces in Pulwama, for which the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility.”
The statement released by France on Tuesday recognized India’s “non-military preemptive” as an act to ensure security against cross-border terrorism and called on Pakistan to “put an end” to terrorist activities on its soil.
The statement read, “France recognizes India’s legitimacy in ensuring its security against cross-border terrorism and calls on Pakistan to put an end to the activities of the terrorist groups established in its territory.”
India & Pakistan should exercise “maximum restraint”: France
The European Union called for “maximum restraint” from the two countries, reported AFP. “We remain in contact with both countries and what we believe is essential, is that all exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation of tensions,” said EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancic.
France in its measures to maintain peace and stability in the region called on both, India and Pakistan, in order to prevent any chances of military escalation. It said, “We solemnly call on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint in order to avert any risk of military escalation and to preserve strategic stability in the region.”
The statement also spotted light on the need for an exchange of bilateral dialogue between India and Pakistan to conclude the ongoing dispute and reach a resolution.
“The resumption of bilateral dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi is necessary in order to launch efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the disputes,” the statement read.
