According to authorities, eight men from a private security firm were detained on Thursday for beating two residents of a Noida housing community.
The security guards have been charged with culpable murder and rioting in connection with the incident at Lotus Boulevard society in Sector 100 on Wednesday, according to the police.
A video of the violence had also gone viral on social media, forcing Police Commissioner Alok Singh to request an investigation and the agency’s licencing to be verified.
The almost minute-long video reportedly shows uniformed security officers confronting two tenants dressed in shorts and t-shirts at a building’s ground-floor access point.
According to the footage, one of the residents fought back with a wooden stick, leading other guards to run back and strike the guy, who was being held by the neck by another member of the staff.
Before the security officers left, another resident who rushed to the man’s aid was also hit in the chest.
“Eight security guards engaged by CISS Bureau private security agency who were deployed at Lotus Boulevard in Sector 100 Noida have been arrested for assaulting society resident Suresh Kumar with sticks and rods,” a police spokesperson said.
“An argument had started between the guards and Kumar over handing over of a shaft key of the residential tower. The security guards admitted to having attacked the man in a rage,” the spokesperson said.
