The state’s meteorological department predicted extremely heavy rain for the next seven days. The prediction says it will start raining from today. Seven districts have been ordered to maintain a high alert.
Uttarakashi, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal, and the Garhwal Division have been put on high alert. The Kumaon division’s Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Nainital districts have also been advised to stay on high alert for the next seven days.
Meanwhile, heavy rains earlier this week caused a series of landslides along the Tanakpur-Ghat national highway. In Uttarakhand’s Champawat district, many people have lost their lives.
On Tuesday, landslides happened at eight locations along the route. It threw mountains of debris onto the road and stranding roughly 150 passengers in various spots.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarkashi district, visited the cloudburst-stricken villages for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He assured the affected people that the government would provide all possible help.
Yesterday, at least nine people were killed and three more were injured in a landslide on the Sangla-Chitkul route. The accident occurred in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Multiple landslides were triggered in the region due to heavy rains, according to officials.
Boulders fell on a tempo traveller ferrying tourists from Chitkula to Sangla. As a result of one such landslide, many are injured. The tempo traveller had 11 people on board, including the driver. Another individual on the road was hurt as a result of what happened.
