Under the directive of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh Police is swiftly cracking down on cow slaughter, open meat sales, and illegal transportation across the state.

Acting on orders from Police Headquarters, law enforcement has ramped up intelligence operations in every district, intensifying surveillance on transport routes with significant success.

Over the past six months, police have filed over 500 cases related to illegal cow transportation and apprehended over a thousand suspects.

The accused had come to Seoni from Nagpur to slaughter the cows

Police in Seoni district have apprehended all individuals implicated in cow slaughter across various police station jurisdictions.

The conspiracy, originating in Nagpur, Maharashtra, enticed the accused with monetary incentives for the slaughter.

Local involvement in the crime has also been identified. Following the incident, police deployed multiple teams to capture the perpetrators.

The case received continuous monitoring from Police Headquarters in Bhopal, ensuring swift arrest of those responsible for such inhumane acts aimed at disrupting communal harmony.

Police are taking strict action

After Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav assumed charge, during the meeting held at the Police Headquarters in December 2023, the police were instructed to take strict action against the illegal transportation of cattle in the state.

In line with these instructions, the police have registered a total of 575 cases related to illegal cow breeding in the last 6 months. In these cases, 1121 criminals have been arrested and 7524 cows have been rescued.

In this operation, till now 342 vehicles that were being transported illegally have also been seized.

Bulldozer Destroys House of Illegal Cattle Transporters

Stringent measures are being implemented against individuals engaged in illegal cattle transportation and cow slaughter.

In collaboration with the police, the administration is employing bulldozers to demolish the homes of the accused.

Four houses of individuals who desecrated a temple by dumping cow remains in Javra, Ratlam district, have been razed.

Similarly, in Seoni district, bulldozers were deployed to demolish the homes of three accused involved in cow slaughter.

Additionally, in the cow slaughter case in Noorabad, Morena, two accused individuals’ houses were demolished.

Police Maintaining Vigilance in Border Districts of the State

Due to the necessity of covert surveillance on illegal cattle transportation, the police headquarters devised an action plan after conducting a thorough analysis of trends and routes used over the past decade.

This analysis highlighted that border districts in southern and western Madhya Pradesh such as Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Ujjain, Ratlam, Neemuch, and others are most affected by this illegal activity.

Police are swiftly and cautiously taking action in these areas.

It has been observed that perpetrators often attempt to divert from main roads through jungles and unpaved village routes. Special attention is being given to these areas, resulting in the apprehension of many suspects.

Special campaign to check illegal transportation of cows

It is noteworthy that on June 11, 2024, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav had directed all the collectors and SPs of the state to take special action on illegal transportation of cows during video conferencing.

In compliance with these instructions, the police ensured strict action on illegal transportation of cows by conducting a special campaign in the entire state from June 13 to June 20, 2024 last week.

During this campaign, 70 cases of illegal transportation of cows were registered in the entire state.

In this, action was taken against 124 accused and 38 vehicles were seized and 528 animals were freed.

Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act

Under the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act, illegal transportation of beef and cows is banned in Madhya Pradesh.

Defining beef and cows in the Act, their slaughter and illegal transportation has been banned.

Similarly, slaughter of cows is also banned under the Madhya Pradesh Krishak Pashu Parikshan Act.

The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act also prohibits beating any animal, riding it excessively, loading it with a burden and inflicting any kind of pain or torture.

Recently, the district officials were specially informed and trained regarding the provisions of the Act.
