In the last three years, 400 security personnel have been martyred in fighting terrorism in J & K and fighting Naxalism in Naxal-affected areas. This information was given by Union Minister Hansraj Ahir in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Ahir said that from the year 2015 to 2017, 572 civilians and 199 security personnel have lost their lives due to Naxalism. Answering the written question, Ahir said that due to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, 72 civilians and 201 security personnel have died.
Last year, 822 communal incidents, 111 killed
Government said on Tuesday, that 822 incidents of communal incidents took place in the country last year, in which 111 people died and 2,384 were injured. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Hansraj Ahir said that in 1957, most of the 195 incidents of communal violence took place in Uttar Pradesh, where 44 people were killed and 542 were injured. He said that 100 communal incidents have taken place in Karnataka in which nine people were killed and 229 were injured. There were 91 incidents in Rajasthan in which 12 people were killed and 175 were injured.
At the same time, the minister said that in the year 2017, 85 communal incidents took place in Bihar in which three people were killed and 321 were injured. In Madhya Pradesh, 60 incidents were reported, and no injuries were reported and 191 were injured. He said that 58 incidents of communal violence took place in West Bengal last year, in which nine people were killed and 230 were injured. In Gujarat 50 incidents took place and eight people were killed and 125 were injured.
Naxalism is coming down in the incidence
government said on Tuesday that concrete measures are being taken to control leftist Naxalism, which has resulted in a decrease in Naxalite incidents in the last few years. Because of this, there is no need to deploy additional security forces in these areas.
In reply to a supplementary question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said that new weapons are being given to the security forces in Naxal-affected areas and continuous central assistance is being provided for development. Apart from this, activities like skill development and structural development in these areas are being given special attention.
He said that violent incidents in Naxal-affected areas have decreased as compared to 2013. In Naxalite incidents 101 incidents were reported in 2013 which has decreased to 81. Naxal attack incidents have also gone down on the security forces. Naxalite incidents have declined in the civil area.
