In Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district, a 20-year-old guy and his companion were allegedly attacked and had their heads partly shaved for his acquaintance with a lady. Three people, including the woman’s father, have been detained.
The Dalit guy filed charges against them under the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, alleging that the incident occurred on May 22.
Rajkumar Deharia, the complainant, informed the police that he was friends with a 19-year-old lady from a prominent family from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) group. He said the lady informed him she wasn’t permitted to leave the house and didn’t have a phone to connect with him, so he borrowed and handed her his friend’s phone.
According to the police complaint, when the woman’s father learned about the phone, her family reportedly summoned Deharia and his companion to their home and bashed them. The defendants then shaved their heads and wore shoe garlands around their necks.
The two men have said in their statements that the accused threatened to harm them and their families if they went to the police.
“A case has been filed. Rajkumar Deharia had given the mobile phone to the girl from the Yadav community. The family got upset and that is why they beat them up. We got the information on May 27 and took immediate action. The accused were arrested and the court has remanded them into police custody,” senior police officer Ravi Chouhan said.
