Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated the ‘Sujal-Drink From Tap Mission’ in Puri on Monday. It was done as part of the state government’s transformative 5T framework.
Puri became the first city in the country to attain a city-wide ‘drink from the tap’ grade water supply system. With 100% metered household connections as a result. The statement was released by the CMO.
According to the official announcement, the project will help more than 2.5 lakh residents of the pilgrim town and millions of pilgrims. Millions pay a visit to the holy city every year. The initiative was launched in Puri’s Baliapanda region.
In October of last year, the Odisha government started the ‘Sujal-Drink From Tap Mission’. This will offer excellent potable water fit for direct drinking from the pipe.
“Lord Jagannath’s land is constantly one step ahead of other cities.
Puri has now joined the ranks of the world’s major cities. Now it will provide clean drinking water to its citizens. “I appreciate the urban housing development department finishing the project in less than ten months,” Patnaik added.
Puri attracts over 2 crore tourists each year, according to Patnaik.
He stated that tourists will no longer be required to carry water bottles when in Puri.
This action will result in the elimination of 3 crore plastic water bottles.
This means the city will be free of 400 million metric tonnes of plastic waste. Patnaik noted that the project is one of the greatest under the 5T strategy.
To supply safe and purified tap water, the programme began in Bhubaneswar’s Salia Sahi and then expanded to Puri.
