Public Health Engineering Department has issued approval for 2168 water supply schemes costing Rs. 1841 crore 20 lakh 88 thousand in 35 districts of the state. For the first time, the Department has issued approval for such a large number of water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission for the provision of drinking water in rural areas.

Under the Jal Jeevan mission, water quality affected villages in scheduled caste and scheduled tribe dominated villages are given priority. The Public Health Engineering Department had set a target of providing 26 lakh 26 thousand new tap connections to the rural population in the current financial year. Out of this target, more than 18 lakh tap connections have been given.

According to this approval by Public Health Engineering Department, Bhopal, Rajgarh, Sehore, Vidisha, Hoshangabad, Betul, Harda, Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Khargone, Barwani, Khandwa, Ujjain, Neemuch, Shajapur, Agramalwa, Bhind, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh New water supply schemes in Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Balaghat, Dindori, Chhindwara, Seoni, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Anuppur, and Shahdol districts as well as retrofitting of newly constructed drinking water infrastructure in various villages Work will be done under it.

In order to supply drinking water from domestic tap connection to the entire rural population of the state where the water crisis is one of the major issues. People in some villages travel miles in order to get the fresh and clean drinking matter, people have complained about the drinking water and keeping that in my mind the state government has launched the scheme to help them in order to get get the clean water

Works are being carried out by the Public Health Engineering Department and Jal Nigam under the Jal Jeevan Mission for the establishment and expansion of water structures. So far, drinking water arrangements have been made for rural families by providing about 35 lakh tap connections in the state.

On the approval given by the department for the 2168 water supply schemes, the department’s field staff will be able to make available drinking water through tap connection to the rural population by completing water supply schemes as per the target.
