The Delhi government will temporarily halt the immunization campaign for the 18-44 age group beginning Monday because it has almost run out of vaccines for this age group, according to AAP MLA Atishi.
She mentioned that due to a vaccine shortage, Delhi has already closed 235 of the total 368 inoculation centers for this age group.
“The remaining 133 locations will be closed on Saturday, which means the immunization campaign for this age group will have to be temporarily halted beginning Monday,” she said.
As of Friday morning, only 42,380 doses remained for the 18-44 age group, according to Atishi.
She said that the Delhi government has less than a day’s supply of Covaxin for the 45-plus age group, while Covishield stock for them will last up to eight days.
On Thursday, 77,438 vaccine doses were administered in Delhi, she said.
Separately, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Friday that the cumulative number of anti-COVID vaccine doses administered in Delhi had surpassed 50 lakh.
As the more infectious and risky surge of coronavirus infections receded, Delhi’s positivity levels fell to 3.58 percent, the lowest since April 1. On Saturday, the national capital reported 2,260 new Covid incidents, the fewest since March 31. And the single-day rise in death count saw a significant drop at 182.
“These are the lowest figures since March 31. Both cares must also be taken, and Covid-appropriate behavior must be followed “Satyendra Jain, the Minister of Health in Delhi, said.
Delhi’s active caseload has dropped to 31,308, the lowest level since April 10. The rate of recovery has risen to 96.16 percent.
6,453 patients were discharged in a single day, almost three times the number of cases recorded during the period.
Last month, Delhi was performing between 80,000 and 100,000 tests every day, with case positivity rates in excess of 25%. While the number has decreased this month, the city still handles over 60,000 cases every day.
Delhi reported 3,009 cases and 252 deaths yesterday, with a positivity rate of less than 4.76 percent.
Saturday is the city’s fourth straight day with less than 4,000 daily events. On Wednesday, Delhi had 3,846 COVID-19 cases and 235 deaths, and on Thursday, it had 3,231 cases and 233 deaths.
