Twenty-one people died in a village in Rajasthan’s Sikar district in as many days, reportedly after a COVID-19-infected corpse was buried without observing procedure.
However, officials reported that only four people died as a result of the virus between April 15 and May 5.
According to authorities, a COVID-19-infected corpse was brought to Kheerva village on April 21, and approximately 150 people attended the last rites and burial without adhering to coronavirus protocol.
According to them, the body was removed from the plastic bag and many people touched it during burial.
“Only 3-4 deaths have been recorded as a result of COVID-19, out of a total of 21. The elderly account for the vast majority of deaths. We took a survey of 147 members of families where deaths occurred to see whether it was COVID-19 population transmission “Kulraj Meena, a sub-divisional officer in Lakshmangarh, told PTI on Saturday.
According to him, the administration has conducted a sanitization campaign in the village. The seriousness of the issue has been demonstrated to the villagers, and they are now cooperating.
Ajay Chaudhary, Sikar’s Chief Medical and Health Officer, stated that a report has been requested from the local authorities, after which he will be able to comment on the issue.
Kheerva is in the assembly constituency of Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra. He had initially posted details about deaths after the burying of an untreated body on social media but had since deleted it.
“With deep sorrow, I must say that more than 20 people have died and others have been poisoned,” he had tweeted.
