After a dispute over a smartphone game in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, a 13-year-old boy was murdered by his friends, two of whom were minors.
Two of the suspected youngsters, aged 13 and 15, were seized on Wednesday as a result of a complaint filed by the victim’s father. The third suspect is being sought by the local police.
“There were three boys, two of whom have been detained. We are looking for the third accused, aged 17–18 years. Preliminary investigation says they had a fight after an altercation broke out over some mobile game,” said a senior police official.
The event occurred in the South 24 Parganas town of Mandirbazar. On Monday night, the 13-year-old kid went to a friend’s house and has been gone ever since.
“The family members said that when he didn’t return home, they initially thought that he had stayed back at the friend’s house. But when he didn’t return even on Tuesday morning, the family started looking for him. The police were also informed,” said a senior official.
His corpse was discovered along the railway tracks on Wednesday. Two boys were held after the family filed a complaint. According to his mother, the victim was last seen sitting on the patio of one of the suspects.
“I spotted him on a friend’s rooftop patio. I inquired about his plans to return home. He replied that he would be late since he had gone to a friend’s house after a few days away. However, he never returned,” the victim’s mother informed the press.
Despite the fact that the post mortem report was still waiting, early investigations showed that the victim was struck in the head by a blunt instrument, according to the police.
“We are not sure what role each of the accused played in the alleged crime. We are waiting for the post mortem report.
