The data of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revealed that the public has deposited Rs 11,302 crore in 64 banks, but it has no claim. This amount is of three crore account holders, which is deposited in both private and government-run banks.


The Central Government gave the information that the amount of Rs 11,302 crores of unclaimed claim in different banks of the country was raised. In the written reply to the question of Sadashiv Lokhande in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla gave this information on Friday.

According to official statistics, as per the status of December 31, 2017 in the nationalized banks, more than 10 years old non-claimed amount was Rs. 8290 crore. In the private sector new banks, the unclaimed amount was Rs. 823 crore. In the old private sector banks, the unclaimed amount was Rs. 1413 crores. The unclaimed amount in foreign banks was Rs. 332 crores.

The minister told that the RBI has advised the banks through its circular that special efforts should be made to locate the customers in connection with the inoperative accounts.

Most of the unclaimed money is in government banks of the country. State Bank of India has the highest amount of Rs 1,262 crores. There is a sum of Rs 1,250 crores deposited in Punjab National Bank, which has no claimant.
